The challenge
The principle of two-fold is a very successful design strategy for lightweight building. Two steel sheet layers connected to a supporting core constitute a sandwich element which has a much better load-bearing capacity than a one-layered steel sheet. How can two steel sheets be rigidly connected to one another with a minimum of welding?
The invention
The RES-Composite Panel uses cold pressure welding to connect two steel sheets by bolts welded in a grid on one side of each sheet with tubular connectors as single spacers between the steel sheets to produce a shear resistant connection.
The advantages
- Mass production for two-fold steel panels
- Provision of a hollow space between the steel sheets
- Plane surface from outside
The applications
- Applicable to thin sheets and heavy plates
- Ship building
- Machinery and vehicles
- Plant engineering
