The challenge
The nodal point of a space frame with detachable connections consists e.g. of a steel sphere with flattened connecting surfaces and threaded holes to be linked up with one bolt attached to a bar. How can this principal detail for a space frame be simplified?
The invention
The node of a RES-Space Frame comprises three slices each cut from a different hollow section with a longitudinal extension which are simply plugged into one another to form a hollow node with 18 connection surfaces of equal width across flats. The hollow node is connected from the inside with the bars by bolts.
The advantages
- Attractive and functional detail for a space frame
- Simplified manufacturing
- Design with different materials and forms
The applications
- Display systems
- Exhibition structures
- Building construction
