The challenge
A mast with a pinned connection to the ground carries vertical loads much more efficient in comparison to a mast with a rigid connection to its foundation. However it needs staycables, which are arranged in at least three different directions. The longitudinal axis of the mast and the staycables define three planes, in which the loads can be divided into tension and compression. Is it possible to stabilize the mast in only one load-bearing plane?
The invention
A mast and its stay-cables will collapse, when their pinned connections are arranged on one straight line. The RES-Mast introduces a vertical lever between the foot of the mast and the pinpoint connections of the stay-cables to stabilize the system and make it suitable to take on horizontal loads.
The advantages
- Minimal structural system to stabilize a mast
- Minimal use of ground
- Stability in each erection stage comprising at least one load-bearing plane
- Rotatable system around the longitudinal axis of the mast creating a multitude of load-bearing planes
- Linkable system
The applications
- Masts to carry railway overhead lines
- Masts to carry transmission lines
- Masts for wind turbines
- Masts for solar plants with a vertical distance to the ground
- Mast for a sailing boat
